It doesn't help to get there fast if you don't get there alive. Sounds trite but it's true. I deliver lost luggage part time. When I first started I wasn't a very good driver, and I was also in a hurry all the time because there is a lot of pressure to meet deadlines. One day I tried to pass a semi on I-215 because my lane was going away and I wanted to get in front of the semi. Just as I got ahead of the semi and started to change lanes, without enough extra room, a guy in a white SUV from the lane on the other  side of the semi changed lanes and left me with nowhere to go. The next thing I remember is ending up on the shoulder on the other side of the highway going the opposite direction. The semi had bumped me (or I bumped him) and I flew across 2 lanes and changed directions, luckily without anyone else hitting me. The semi and the SUV both kept going. I escaped with a nice dent on my rear passenger side fender. I refer to that day as the day I hit the semi. It was 5 years ago and I still don't like to think or talk about it. But since that day I have been a much better driver.

I agree that everyone just needs to slow down. I am at fault for going to fast at times and I have come across moments where I have learned my lesson for driving a bit crazy. I've either come too close for comfort to other cars or someone has almost hit me due to their driving. I've learned to take it slow and changing and merging lanes ahead of time.

I think that it is interesting how many of us will drive fast and sometimes dangerously because we are in a hurry until something finally happens to us. I was driving to fast one time in the snow and when traffic came to a stop, I could not and I hit the person in front of me. Ever since this situation 3 years ago I drive slower and even catch myself yelling at people who don't, which usually makes me feel old.

I have spent the last two years commuting to Park City for work 5 days a week. Traveling up and down I-80 each day and seeing semis in the far right lane at 30 mph and speed demons in the far left lane at 80 mph has caused great concern for my safety. It is a big wake-up call when you see a car ahead of you one minute, and then upside down in the median the next.
