On 1 April 2007, Mike Langevin, 41 years old at the time, living in Brampton, Ontario, had just returned a 24-hour shift as a firefighter and collapsed in bed with a blinding headache. An aneurysm bursts in the right side of his brain. He was rushed to the hospital where his wife Janet was told he had a 10 per cent chance of surviving. He beat the odds and after five days and two procedures, the aneurysm was contained.

Since then, he has experienced the long road to recovery with great help from physical and occupational therapists, his fellow firefighter, and certainly his wife and his son Trent. The Toronto Star has detailed his recovery at Toronto Rehab. Interesting, his dream is to be able to drive again – that symbol of his old life, his independence.
